🤔 How Does This Tool Work?

The Tip Calculator works in three simple steps:

  • Step 1: Calculate tip amount = Bill Amount × Tip% ÷ 100
  • Step 2: Calculate total = Bill Amount + Tip Amount
  • Step 3: Per person amount = Total ÷ Number of People

For example: Bill = 5,000. Tip 10% = 500. Total = 5,500. Split 4 ways = 1,375 per person.

Use the quick tip buttons (10%, 15%, 20%, 25%) for common tip amounts, or enter any custom percentage you prefer.

❓ FAQ
What is a standard tip percentage?
It varies by country: Sri Lanka: 10% is common. UK: 10 to 12.5%. USA: 15 to 20%. Australia: tips are appreciated but less expected. Germany: rounding up the bill is common. Always base your tip on the quality of service!
Should I tip on the total bill including tax?
In most cases, yes — it is simpler and the difference is small. Technically some people tip on the pre-tax amount, but either approach is fine. The important thing is that good service is appreciated!
How do I split the bill if people ordered different amounts?
Our calculator splits the total (including tip) equally between people. If you need to charge different people different amounts, it is easiest for each person to pay for their own items plus their share of the tip.
What if the service was bad? Should I still tip?
Tipping customs vary. In countries where tipping is expected (like the USA), not tipping sends a strong message. In other countries, you can simply not tip or leave a small amount. Always use your judgment.
How do I calculate a 10% tip quickly in my head?
Move the decimal point one place to the left! 10% of 4,500 = 450. For 20%: double the 10% amount. For 15%: find 10%, then find 5% (half of 10%), then add them together.
